There is no doubt that Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic Party nominee for the 2016 US presidential elections. The real action is taking place over on the Republican side, where around two dozen potential candidates are vying for the nomination.
While Hillary faces strong negative ratings (i.e. those who don’t like her, REALLY don’t like her), it strikes me as a no brainer that simply nominating yet another old white man won’t cut it for the Republicans.
In fact, of all the candidates on show so far, only Marco Rubio seems to fit the bill in terms of cutting it, i.e. he is a serious antidote to whatever Hillary has to offer, which is essentially two things: being a Clinton and being a woman. Rubio neutralises the ‘first female’ argument with his own, ‘first hispanic’ argument and he also has youth and eloquence on his side. Looking forward to seeing more of him in the coming months.
